Do you or someone you love struggle to keep emotions under control? When that happens, “Practice this statement – ‘Let me think about that.’ This simple statement can slow us down and help us gather our thoughts before acting. This is an important tool for practicing self-control.

Pause.

Breathe.

Slow down.

Pray, God help me slow down and not let my feelings get ahead of me in this moment.

Parents of Kids & Students:

Parents and kids need a strong support system. Part of building that support for your kid is knowing what you have available in your community.

So, how do you build your system of support?

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Reach out to your school community and see what kind of support or parental engagement activities are available.
  • Talk to your local church and inquire about parental support ministries and engagement activities.
  • Call friends you trust for advice, and don’t be ashamed to ask for help. When your kid sees you getting the help you need, it normalizes it for them and gives them permission to seek help when they need it.
