Materials

  • Mason jar with a lid (any size, but a wide-mouth jar is easier to work with)
  • Small plastic or ceramic figurines (trees, snowmen, animals, etc.)
  • Waterproof glue (e.g., epoxy or hot glue)
  • Distilled water
  • Glycerin (optional, helps the glitter fall slowly)
  • Glitter (white, silver, or gold work well)
  • Small decorative items like fake snow, sequins, or beads
  • Ribbons or fabric for decoration

Instructions

1. Prepare the Lid

  1. Clean and dry the Mason jar and lid thoroughly.
  2. Take your figurines and decide on their arrangement for the snow globe. Keep in mind they will be glued to the inside of the lid.
  3. Use waterproof glue to secure the figurines to the inside of the jar lid. Make sure to give them enough time to fully dry and set (check the glue's drying instructions).

2. Add Water and Glycerin

  1. Once the figurines are set on the lid, fill your jar almost to the top with distilled water.
  2. Add a few drops of glycerin (about 2-3 drops) to the water. Glycerin thickens the water slightly, helping the glitter fall more slowly for that "snowy" effect.

3. Add Glitter

  1. Sprinkle about 1-2 teaspoons of glitter into the water (you can adjust the amount based on how much “snow” you want).
  2. You can also add small decorative items like sequins, tiny beads, or faux snowflakes.

4. Seal the Jar

  1. Carefully screw the lid (with your glued figurines) onto the jar. Make sure it is tightly sealed to prevent leaks.
  2. If you want extra security, you can apply a layer of waterproof glue around the edge of the lid before tightening it to seal it permanently.

5. Shake and Decorate

  1. Turn the jar upside down (the figurines should now be standing upright inside the water). Shake the jar to see the snow effect!
  2. Optional: Decorate the outside of the jar. You can wrap a festive ribbon around the lid or add some fabric to give it a cozy holiday touch.

Tips

  • If using a larger jar, consider using more figurines or adding extra details like tiny fake gifts or mini pinecones.
  • If you want a colored "snow" effect, try using colored glitter or small beads.

Now, enjoy your homemade snow globe!
