Have you ever seen a racecar driver complete a race without a pit crew? It's like a squad, a group that works together.

No one wins a race alone. The people we surround ourselves with play a significant role in shaping our lives. God wants us to have good lives and one of the ways He helps us achieve that is by the people He brings around us.

You haven’t gotten this far alone. You’re here because of the people who’ve been a part of your life. You’ll go further with a team of friends, family and supporters than you can go alone (Proverbs 15:22).

You may already have these pit crew members in your life. If not, there’s no better time than now to take your next step and start building friendships with other Christians.

Six Types of People You Need In Your Life

1. The Crew Chief

A crew chief manages the whole team and communicates with the driver. His overhead view shows what others on the ground cannot see, so he can spot problems before others can.

This is like someone who acts as your mentor and gives counsel to help you improve (Proverbs 27:17). This person helps you see what’s happening in your life, when you need help and what you need to succeed. He or she speaks honestly so you can clearly see what’s working and what’s not working for your life (1 Thessalonians 5:11-14).

2. The Jack Man

This mechanic lifts the car using a jack so other mechanics can make the necessary fixes. This kind of friend helps by carrying some of the weight so you don’t wear out trying to fix things yourself (Galatians 6:1-2).

3. The Stabilizer

A stabilizer holds the race car steady while necessary fixes are made. We all go through rugged patches that knock us off balance. This kind of friend keeps us steady and focused on our next steps with God (1 Corinthians 15:58).

4. The Fuel Man

This is the friend or family member who helps you make progress and get places. Like race cars need fuel to move forward, this person sticks with us for the long haul and keeps us advancing (Galatians 6:9-10).

5. The Fire Extinguisher

This crew member makes all the difference when an engine fire breaks out. All of us need major help dealing with problems and sins that threaten to destroy us (Proverbs 17:17). This person helps you see your sin, repent, and turn back toward Jesus (James 5:16).

6. The Starter

A starter stands by to jump-start the engine if it stalls. We all need someone to give us a push every once in a while. We get tired and blind to things out of routine, but we regain momentum from a friend who re-energizes us and reminds us what’s important (Hebrews 10:24-25).
