Weekend Series: Advent 2023

DreamTeam Writer: Kelly Pagel

Saturday, December 16, 2023

Throughout this past week, we have had an opportunity to read a variety of devotions reminding us of the love, compassion, humility, sacrifice and grace that Christ demonstrated to us.

It is easy to get caught up in the “magic” of Christmas, putting expectations on the trappings of the season that will never fully deliver. However, when we focus on the miracle of Christ, we can begin to experience joy and peace even if something is missing, broken, changed.

Today, I invite you to carve out a few quiet moments to reread the verses that really spoke to you this week. Some possibilities may come from last weekend’s message such as Hebrews 12:2, Psalm 34:18 or Revelation 21:4, or it may be from one of the Advent devotions you read. Then look back on the notes you captured from last Sunday and reflect on the actions you took this week.

You may consider making additional notes as you explore the following:

Consider lighting a candle or turning on the lights of your Christmas tree and reflecting on Jesus being the light of the world. What does this mean for you?

What have you learned about God this week?

How will you continue to connect with God this Christmas season?

Prayer:
Jesus, you said we would experience trials in this world, but you also reminded us you have overcome the world (John 16:33). This Christmas season, help me identify what I am grieving and surrender it all to you. Lord turn my eyes to the miracle of Christ and the hope and peace he offers. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Series Theme Verse:

Psalm 16:11 (ESV)
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
