1 Peter 5:9
Stand firm against him [the devil], and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
The key to standing firm in our faith is surrendering our life to God and admitting we can’t do things on our own. But we need to be honest and acknowledge to God what we’re struggling with. And then we must turn away from (repent of) those behaviors or actions. While it's definitely not fun or easy, admitting where we fall short reminds us of our need for Christ and helps us draw closer to him.
Today, carve out some time where you can be free of distractions. Sit quietly, and confess before God what you are struggling with (pride, anger, addiction, perfectionism, etc.).
You can use the following prayer to guide you.
Prayer:
Lord, I confess I am prone to _________________________________________________. I’m sorry!
This distracts me from you and lets me falsely believe I am in control. But I am not—you are. So today, Father, I surrender it all to you.
Your Word reminds me that “if we confess our sins to [Jesus], he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness” (1 John 1:9). Thank you for your forgiveness, Lord! Help me live from this truth every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
