A new year always brings a mix of hope and hesitation. We feel the pull to grow, to follow God more boldly … and at the same time, we feel the weight of everything already on our plate. It’s so easy to think, “When life slows down, then I’ll say yes. Then I’ll take the next step.”
But what if God isn’t waiting for the perfect moment? What if he’s waiting for a willing heart?
Psalm 40:8 shows us the posture of someone whose “yes” is already on the table:
“I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”
Joy doesn't come after obedience; it meets us in obedience.
Maybe this year isn’t about trying harder, doing more, or proving something to God. Maybe it’s about making space to hear him, and then simply having a willing heart.
Imagine what could shift in your relationships, your peace, your purpose, if your first response became, “God, my answer is yes. What are you inviting me into?” This might just be the courage, clarity, and transformation your soul has been craving.
Discussion Questions:
Icebreaker: What’s one small thing you said yes to recently that ended up being surprisingly good?
Is there a place in your community where you feel God is nudging you to step in to make a difference? How can you take a practical step in the direction of saying yes?
Read 1 Samuel 3: Samuel was afraid to share the message God gave him (1 Samuel 3:15). What fears tend to hold you back when God nudges you toward obedience, and what helps you push through them?
Why do you think saying yes to God often feels harder than saying yes to everything else in life?
Reflect & Respond: What could become possible if you decided today that your yes is already on the table?
Prayer:
God, my answer is yes. What is your invitation? I love you, I trust you, and I worship you. Amen.
