John 8:12
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."

As followers of Jesus, we have the light that leads to life.

Did you catch that? Jesus himself promised it. Let that sink in for a moment. This isn't just encouragement; it's a game-changer.

So, what does this promise mean for us today?

When this promise settles in our hearts, it brings freedom and lifts our burdens.

However, embracing this truth isn’t always easy.

The world can feel dark, both around us and in our minds. We all face frustrations, struggles, and hard times. In these moments, any light can seem impossible to find.

But we have an opportunity to live differently. Saying yes to following Jesus invites us to find true freedom from life's challenges.

Embracing this freedom brings with it a purposeful, intentional life in his light.

Some days, saying yes to Jesus comes easier than others. That's when our choice matters. Even when circumstances try to convince us otherwise, Jesus promises he is always with us (Hebrews 13:5) in the darkest moments.

Remembering that we're not alone changes how we move forward. His presence not only comforts us but also empowers us to live differently.

As we experience his light, we can share it with others, especially those who haven't yet followed him or feel trapped in darkness.

Each day, there is a chance to respond to his invitation.

Choose to follow him today and see the difference his freedom makes.

Discussion Questions:

Ice Breaker: If you could choose one word to describe “freedom,” what would it be and why?

How might someone change if they truly believed they were chosen for freedom, not just rescued from something?

Read Ephesians 1:3–14: List some of the blessings mentioned in this scripture. Which feels most meaningful or surprising?

How does knowing you were chosen before you did anything right (or wrong) affect how you see yourself?

Reflect and Respond: What might change this week if you lived as someone who is already accepted, redeemed, and chosen?

Prayer:
Jesus, you are the light of the world, and you promised that if I follow you, I don't have to walk in darkness. Help that truth sink deep into my heart today. When life feels heavy or unclear, lift the weight I’ve been carrying and replace it with your peace. Open my eyes to see your truth and give me the courage to keep saying yes to you…every day. I love you, I trust you, and I worship you. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:

Ephesians 1:5
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
