Have you ever demanded your own way, thinking it would provide peace, only to leave you disappointed?
Spend time today memorizing the series theme verse below and considering where peace truly comes from.
Then reflect on the following questions. Consider what Jesus teaches us about disappointment and how he calls us to respond.
Discussion Questions:
- Icebreaker: What is the most disappointing vacation you've been on?
- How have you seen setbacks set you or someone else up for success?
- Read Matthew 16:21-26. What part do you find disappointing? How are you encouraged?
- Where in your life are you prone to wanting your own way?
- What is one thing you can surrender at the cross today? How can you rejoice rather than be disappointed?
Prayer:
Lord, I am so prone to thinking that I know what will give me peace, but the things of this world will never fully satisfy me. You, Jesus, are the Prince of Peace. Instead of focusing on what the world tells me will bring me peace, help me surrender my burdens at the cross and submit to your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Series Theme Verse:
John 16:33
"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
