Bible in a Year: Proverbs 5-6 | Colossians 1

Characteristics of God: He is a healer.

1 Peter 2:24
He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.

When I was young, I often felt “less than” most people. Over time, I realized that we are all broken and in need of being healed. My true understanding began when I discovered the Word of God and the guidance of his Holy Spirit. I learned that regardless of what we experience in life, what others do to us, or even the mistakes we make, only one choice truly matters for eternity: whether or not we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and put our faith in him.

According to his promise, this choice brings us healing and salvation.

Psalm 103:2-3
Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.

As glorious as being healed and saved is, God’s blessings don’t stop there. He not only heals us from our sins but also heals us from the other spiritual, mental, and physical maladies we face from living in this broken world. God asks us to persevere, reminding us that Jesus’ promise means we are truly healed, we belong to him, and no one or no thing can snatch us from him.

Jeremiah 17:14
O Lord, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!

Knowing, believing, and understanding all that … why would we choose to place anyone or anything before God?

There will be times when we feel weary in mind, body, or spirit. Yet when we hold fast to God's promises and view our lives through the lens of eternity, we find hope and assurance. The struggles and sicknesses of today are no match for the healing and victory secured for us by our Savior and King. Through faith in him, we are not only healed but restored, now and forever.

Hallelujah! All praises, glory, and honor go to our Father God, our healer and Lord.

Questions:
Do you agree that you are broken and in need of healing from your one and only true Creator, God?

Next Steps:
If you haven’t already, take a moment to talk to God and to tell him that you invite Jesus Christ into your life and accept his gift of healing through forgiveness and salvation. Then confess and repent your sins as you turn in agreement with God.

Study the following verses:

Prayer:
Dear God, you are my healer. You came in the flesh to suffer, die, and be raised up to overcome death for me because I am broken by sin and not worthy to save myself. Because of you, I am truly and forever healed. I want you to know that I choose you, I accept your gift with a grateful heart, and I truly love you. Thank you, Father, I adore you and will praise your name forever! It is in your Son, my Savior’s most precious and holy name, Jesus Christ, that I pray. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:

Jeremiah 9:23-24a
This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord….”
