Bible in a Year: Psalms 12-14 | Acts 7
How amazing is it that God speaks to us through his Holy Spirit?! Often the Spirit speaks directly to us, but sometimes, in his wisdom, God chooses another path to get his message across.
Ephesians 3:3-5
As I briefly wrote earlier, God himself revealed his mysterious plan to me. As you read what I have written, you will understand my insight into this plan regarding Christ. God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now by his Spirit he has revealed it to his holy apostles and prophets.
Sometimes, we’re most receptive when we hear the right message from the right person. God's Spirit spoke through the apostle Paul to reveal the mystery of Christ to the Ephesians, and God continues to use other people to speak, advocate, advise, and offer wisdom to us today.
When we pay attention, we begin to recognize the different ways God’s Spirit is speaking to us.
Messages through the Holy Spirit can be subtle, like someone reaching out with encouragement, saying they felt led to pray for you, or gently speaking truth into your life at just the right moment. But sometimes, the messages are more direct.
Although God is perfectly capable of making his own declarations to bring us messages of change or truth (Psalm 2:6), he also uses the Holy Spirit to make these declarations through others, as we see in the following verse:
Acts 21:11
He came over, took Paul’s belt, and bound his own feet and hands with it. Then he said, “The Holy Spirit declares, ‘So shall the owner of this belt be bound by the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem and turned over to the Gentiles.’”
These promptings and messages through others are one more way that God uses the Holy Spirit to guide us into a more abundant life. Abundant living doesn't mean God is going to give us everything we want. Instead, it's the ability to find joy in his promises, even when we are navigating the difficulties and troubles of this world.
Are you listening to the Holy Spirit's promptings? Because God wants you to be a part of his Kingdom’s work to speak life into others.
Questions:
When have you heard God's prompting to speak to someone or pray for them?
When was a time you felt uncertain if the prompting was from God?
What do you need to declare over someone’s life today?
Next Steps:
Declare God's truth by reading Psalm 119: 153-160.
Spend time praying for people in the Daily on the CedarCreek App.
Send a word of encouragement to someone today.
Prayer:
God, help me to live from the freedom that the message of the gospel gives to all who follow you by the Holy Spirit's prompting. You have called me to speak life into others. Let the Holy Spirit do what only the Spirit of the Living God can do to bring about God's Kingdom today. Amen.
Series Theme Verse:
Hebrews 2:1
So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
