New Testament Reading Plan: Revelation 9
Would you consider yourself to be radically generous?
What does that even mean?
AI Overview defines radically generous as “giving generously, often through sacrifice and with an abundance mindset, to the point that it is extreme or transformative. It involves giving more than is expected or usual, addressing core needs without expecting anything in return, and sharing resources, time, and love. This concept can be seen in examples ranging from early Christian communities sharing all their possessions to corporate leaders giving substantial bonuses to all employees.”
Acts 20:35
“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Luke the Evangelist wrote this verse included in the Book of Acts. He was a traveling companion to the apostle Paul and chronicled Paul’s Christian ministry. In this verse, Luke wrote about Paul’s radically generous nature - about his hard work, selfless serving, and giving. Paul’s generosity was not out of obligation but driven by the Holy Spirit to continue Jesus’ teachings about the Good News - our salvation.
Once a persecutor of Christians, Paul’s world was turned upside down following a divine encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. He was completely transformed by Jesus’ love, and because of that change, he devoted himself to the Christian movement. Paul was encouraging the elders of the church in Ephesus to follow Jesus’ example: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Unfortunately, as our Bottom Line suggests: The gravitational pull of life is toward comfort not CALLING. You can chase ease or impact, but not both!
But God is calling, and he wants our hearts because “wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (Matthew 6:21).
God has given us everything we have, so by generously giving to those in need, we are spiritually trusting that God will continue to provide for us. By placing our dependence on him, we deepen our faith and learn to hold loosely to material things.
What could radical generosity look like in your life today? Maybe it’s joining a DreamTeam to serve others, giving consistently to support God’s work, or speaking hope into someone’s life through his Word. However you live it out, each act of generosity draws you closer to the heart of Jesus and reflects his love to the world.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for all you have given me. Teach me to become radically generous with all that I have so I can continue Jesus’ mission. Open my heart and my hands so I may receive and give freely. Please bless me so I may become a blessing to others. It’s in Jesus’ name that I pray, amen.
