Weekend Series: The Catch

DreamTeam Writer: Lori Tuckerman

As we reflect on our week of reading, one theme that stands out in Mark's chapters is that people's lives are transformed when they choose to say yes to Jesus. And this transformation happens, even when they don't have a perfect understanding of what comes next.

One example is the woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years.

After exhausting all options, she hears Jesus is nearby. Instead of hiding, she presses through the crowd and reaches out.

Mark 5:28
For she thought to herself, "If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”

Her decision to move toward Jesus became her turning point.

She picked the right spot.

Following Jesus isn't always about dramatic acts. In Mark, the most pivotal moments come from simple, faithful decisions. A father falls at Jesus' feet for his daughter. Friends bring a blind man to be healed. A mother refuses to give up when Jesus tests her persistence. All show the power of saying yes to Jesus' presence.

Each of them did something small but courageous: they positioned themselves near Jesus and entrusted what they carried to him.

Faith often begins exactly there.

Faith starts when we step closer, bringing our questions, needs, or broken places into Jesus' presence and trusting him.

The woman in the crowd didn't prepare a speech. She simply reached out in hope.

And Jesus noticed. (Mark 5:31-34)

Today, you may not have clarity, but you don't need it to respond to Jesus. The essential step is positioning yourself near him and saying yes when the opportunity comes—just as in Mark, simple moments of faith change everything.

Positioning our hearts close to Jesus turns even our smallest acts of faith into the beginning of profound change. That is the invitation and challenge we see throughout Mark.

Mark 5:36b
“Don't be afraid. Just have faith.”

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as I pause to reflect on what I've learned this week, I can't help but thank you for the many blessings in my life. Please provide the wisdom to learn from my experiences, strengthen me to make positive changes, and give me compassion to support those you have placed around me. May your presence continue to inspire me to grow in faith, hope, and love. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Series Theme Verse:
2 Corinthians 5:20

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
