Bible in a Year: Job 41-42 | Matthew 23

There have been moments in my faith journey when I felt God so clearly. Worship services where tears flowed. Prayers that felt powerful. Seasons where everything seemed aligned and purposeful. Hard times when I felt the hand of God on me.

There have also been many ordinary days. Quiet drives to work. Folding laundry. Sitting in exhaustion after carrying too many responsibilities. Days where I wondered if I was doing enough, hearing enough, or feeling enough.

Ephesians 1:13
And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.

In Ephesians, Paul reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not just tied to emotional moments. He is a seal. A guarantee. A constant presence. God did not choose us only for the powerful moments that eventually fade. He chose us completely, fully, and eternally. His presence is not something we have to strive for, earn, or recreate. Through Christ, we already belong to him, and his Spirit remains with us in both the extraordinary and the ordinary moments.

Lately, God has been teaching me that sometimes we miss him because our lives are too loud.

We rush from responsibility to responsibility, carrying the weight of work, family, service, and expectations. We convince ourselves that productivity equals purpose. Yet throughout Scripture, God continually invites his people into rest. Sabbath was never just about stopping work. It was about remembering who we belong to.

There is something powerful about slowing down long enough to notice God in the quiet moments. In the stillness of an early morning. In a deep breath between meetings. In the silence after everyone else has gone to bed. Rest creates space for us to recognize what has been true all along: God is already here.

The Holy Spirit is evidence that you are not forgotten, abandoned, or overlooked in the everyday parts of life. God’s presence is just as real in the mundane moments as it is on the mountaintops.

Jesus did not simply save us for a future eternity with him someday. He secured a relationship with him right here, right now, shaping the way we connect with God, others, and even ourselves.

Questions:
Have you been measuring God’s presence by your emotions instead of his promises?

What ordinary part of your daily life do you need to invite God into more intentionally?

Next Steps:
Pause for one minute during an ordinary part of your day today and simply whisper, “Thank you, God, for being with me here, too.”

Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for choosing me and making me your own. Help me remember that your presence is not dependent on my emotions or circumstances. Thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit as a constant reminder that I belong to you. Teach me to notice you not only in powerful moments, but also in the quiet, ordinary parts of my life. Help me live secure in your love and confident in the eternal future I have through you. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:
Ephesians 1:5
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
