New Testament Reading Plan: 2 Corinthians 10
“…These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.”
—Acts 17:6 (NKJV)
When Paul and Silas walked into Thessalonica, they weren’t met with applause. They were met with accusation: “These men have turned the world upside down.” To the people in power, that was a threat. But to those who heard the Good News, it was an invitation. Ordinary men with no titles, no platform, and no wealth carried the extraordinary message of Jesus, and the world could never be the same.
As CedarCreek celebrates 30 years, this verse feels alive for us. We look back with gratitude for all God has done. The marriages restored, the addictions broken, the friendships formed, the eternal hope discovered. But this moment isn’t about memory - it’s about a movement. God is not finished. In fact, he is just getting started.
The disciples in Acts had three things in common that turned the world upside down.
- A passion for Jesus that set their hearts on fire. For us, that means worshiping wholeheartedly on the weekend and praying boldly in our homes every day.
- A posture of service that puts others first. For us, that means serving on a DreamTeam at our campus, caring for neighbors in our community, and showing kindness in the workplace, even when it is hard.
- A priority on his mission above their own comfort. For us, that means inviting friends and coworkers to experience Jesus, giving generously to fuel the mission, and living with courage even when it feels uncomfortable.
That same invitation is open to us today. Imagine what God could do in the next 30 years if every one of us lived with bold, upside-down faith.
What neighborhoods could be healed?
What families could be restored?
What lives could be transformed for eternity?
We don’t have to be extraordinary people; we just need extraordinary obedience. In fact, God has already equipped us with all we need. He takes the small, simple “yes” of an ordinary person like you and me, and uses it to change the world. He did it with Paul and Silas, and now he is doing it here.
That’s the legacy of this church, and that’s the mission still in front of us.
Questions:
Is there an “ordinary” area of your life that God might want to use extraordinarily?
Which of the three qualities - passion, service, or mission - is God prompting you to grow in today? Where can you live out that quality: at church, at home, in your community, or in your workplace?
How could you personally help CedarCreek step boldly into the next 30 years?
Next Steps:
Say “yes” to one bold step today. Invite a friend, serve on a DreamTeam, or share your story. Don’t wait for the perfect moment; start right where you are. God will use it.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for 30 years of faithfulness at CedarCreek. Thank you for using ordinary people, people like me, to bring hope to the world. Stir in me a fresh passion for Jesus, a humble heart to serve, and a courage to put your mission above my comfort. Use my life in my church, my home, my community, and my workplace to turn the world upside down for your glory. Amen.
Series Theme Verse:
Acts 17:6 (NKJV)
But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.”
