Bible in a Year: Exodus 29-32 | Romans 16
Can you imagine being carried, not because you want to be, but because you have no other choice?
Having to depend on someone else's strength can leave us feeling vulnerable, exposed, and wondering if we're even worth the trouble. Many would rather be the one carrying than being carried. Yet one of the most powerful stories in Scripture begins with a man who couldn't get to Jesus on his own and four friends who believed he was worth carrying.
The more I read Mark 2, the more I love it. What captures my heart are the people surrounding him. They refused to let obstacles, crowds, or inconvenience stop them from getting their friend to Jesus.
When they couldn't get through the door, they climbed onto the roof.
When there wasn't a path forward, they made one.
Why? Because they believed he mattered.
I think most of us can relate to a season when life felt too heavy to carry alone. Maybe it was grief, a diagnosis, a broken relationship, financial stress, or simply exhaustion. God places people in our lives who show up when we need them most. People who call, pray, listen, encourage, or simply sit beside us
They remind us of something God has been saying all along. "You are valuable." And, before you stand up and walk, you matter to God.
Matthew 10:29-31
“What is the price of two sparrows - one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
In Matthew 10, Jesus tells us that not even a sparrow falls to the ground without the Father knowing. Then he reminds us we are worth far more than sparrows. The world tells us our value comes from what we accomplish, but God sees it differently. Our worth was established long before our achievements, because it comes from him.
The friends in Mark 2 saw what God sees in each of us: a person worth loving, helping, and bringing closer to Jesus.
So take a moment today to thank God for the people who have carried you when you couldn't walk on your own. Then ask him this question: Who needs me to help carry them to Jesus?
Questions:
Who are the people God has used to carry and encourage you during difficult seasons?
Is there an area of your life where you need to allow others to help carry a burden you were never meant to carry alone?
Next Steps:
Send a text, make a call, or write a note to someone who has helped carry you through a difficult season. Thank them specifically for how God used them in your life.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for seeing my value even when I struggle to see it myself. Thank you for the people you have placed in my life to encourage, support, and carry me when I have been weak. Help me recognize those gifts with gratitude. Show me who needs encouragement today, and give me the courage to be the kind of friend who helps carry them closer to you. Amen.
Series Theme Verse:
Galatians 5:13
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
