New Testament Reading Plan: Revelation 13

Have you ever felt like you were immortal? The truth is, our days on this earth are numbered. Each of us will face death at some point; it is part of living in this fallen world. Most of us push this reality to the back of our minds, living as if we are immortal and have all the time in the world. This does not change the truth that this worldly life isn’t eternal. However, we can spend our allotted time on this earth to make an eternal impact.

Psalm 39:5
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.

My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.

It is truly a blessing when we realize and embrace this truth. Sure, it is scary and overwhelming to face death, but we do not have to worry about the unknown. As Christians, we are secure in our eternal destiny. What matters is not how long we live, but the way we choose to live our daily lives. Are we living solely for our desires and happiness, or are we taking up our cross each day and following the will of God?

Each day we spend on earth is a gift - not only because we get to enjoy the wonderful blessings that God has given us, but also because we have the opportunity to live each day for him and to further the kingdom of God here on earth. We have the chance to make disciples, change others’ lives (in big and small ways), and live with purpose.

Psalm 39:6-7
We are merely moving shadows,

and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.

We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.

And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?

My only hope is in you.

When we put our complete trust in God, our outlook on life changes. We no longer need to worry about the future, be self-absorbed, or conform to society’s standards. Instead, we can live each day with intention and devotion to the Creator and his creation.

Let’s go about our week remembering that although this life is just a fleeting moment, what we do in this lifetime carries eternal impact.

Questions:
How can you make an eternal impact in your daily life?

Why is it important to remember that we only have a short time on this earth?

Next Steps:
Sign up for baptism to publicly show your commitment to Christ and take on new life in the Holy Spirit.

Through prayer, ask God for discernment for his will for your earthly life.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thanks for every new day that you give me and for every breath that fills my lungs. Remind me that although my time here on this earth is short, you have given me the ability to make an eternal impact on others and plant the seed of faith in their hearts. I look forward to the day when we are all reunited with you in heaven. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Series Theme Verse:

Colossians 1:13-14
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
