Bible in a Year: Psalms 18-20 | Acts 9

There’s a bridge in the song “Oceans” by Hillsong United that comes to mind when I think about saying yes to Jesus, fully opening myself up to let him and the Holy Spirit lead my steps.

It goes like this:

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders

Let me walk upon the waters

Wherever You would call me

Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander

And my faith will be made stronger

In the presence of my Savior

I've used this song many times to worship God through challenges. And if I’m being honest, I’ve had to put this bridge on repeat when I was struggling to trust.

It’s not easy to continue saying yes and letting go of control when we’re in the middle of overwhelming challenges.

Life's trials can make us want to hold on to control out of fear of the unknown. Holding on may also stem from a deeper issue of pride. Whatever the reason, not letting the Holy Spirit lead us can easily cause us to drift away from our relationship with God.

As many of us know, even with Jesus and his Spirit guiding and guarding us, we're not promised a perfect, problem-free life. (John 16:33)

But the good news is this: As we say yes to him, no matter what waves come our way, our lives can be filled with God's presence and peace.

Jesus talks about this kind of life.

John 10:10 ESV
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

As you step out in faith, trusting the Spirit to lead you where your trust is without borders, remember that Jesus’ promise is not just for survival, but for a life filled with meaning, love, and abundance.

When we let go of control and walk where he calls us - even on waters that seem impossible - his presence transforms every circumstance. Abundant life is not about the absence of struggle, but the assurance that we walk with the Savior who strengthens our faith, no matter what comes our way.

May we have the courage today to say yes to Jesus, to follow where the Spirit leads, and to trust that - with him - our lives will be marked by his peace, purpose, and abundance.

Questions:
What makes it difficult to listen to or trust the Holy Spirit in everyday moments?

Are there areas where you tend to rely on your instincts instead of God’s guidance?

Next Step:
Make a list of practical steps you can take this week to let go of control and say yes to God.

Prayer:
Jesus, you know my heart completely. Please help me search it and reveal any hidden places that are holding me back from saying “yes” to you today. I acknowledge that every good thing comes from you, and I long to surrender my fear of releasing control. Help me keep my eyes on you so I can discern the difference between the thief and the abundance that you have planned for me. I love you, I trust you, and I worship you. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:

Hebrews 2:1
So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
