Bible in a Year: Proverbs 2-3 | Philippians 3
Characteristics of God: He is a teacher.
I wish there weren’t as many times in my life when I let fear win over faith, or when I made choices that seemed right in the moment but ended up hurting me—or worse, the people around me. That kind of regret can feel heavy.
Thinking about those moments, I’ve noticed a pattern. The pain often comes when I move forward without pausing to listen for God’s direction or when I ignore his guidance through Scripture, the nudges from the Holy Spirit, or the boldness of people he’s placed in my life.
God is never distant or silent in those moments. If I pause to listen, he’s actually very present…as a Teacher.
In Isaiah 48:17, God says, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good and leads you along the paths you should follow.”
And in Psalm 32:8, he promises, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
That means we’re not left to figure life out on our own.
God’s instruction flows from his wisdom and his deep care for us. When he guides us, it isn’t to restrict us, but to protect us, shape our character, and lead us toward what is truly good.
His direction is always rooted in love. In fact, even his correction and discipline are acts of love, gently redirecting us when we begin to drift away from what he knows is best for us. (Proverbs 3:12)
This means that every lesson, whether it feels gentle or challenging, is offered for our growth. If we’re willing to trust him, we can see even our missteps as opportunities to learn and become more like him. As we experience his guidance, we begin to understand that following God is less about rules and more about relationship.
When we are on an adventure with Jesus, we get the privilege of walking with a Teacher who knows and loves us deeply and wants the best for us.
How much heartache could we avoid by following his lead from the start?
Let’s find out together by trusting the Teacher, taking the next step, and letting his wisdom shape our story. One day, one lesson, and one small act of faith at a time.

Series Theme Verse:
Jeremiah 9:23-24a
This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord….”
