Church should be the easiest place to love others. After all, we gather to serve, worship, pray, and point each other to Jesus. In these moments, we are reminded of the unity and purpose we share in Christ, and the hope that fills our hearts as we walk this journey together. The church is a place where grace flows freely, and where burdens are shared, not hidden. 

But the truth is, we’re all unique and bring with us different personalities, backgrounds, struggles, and beliefs. So sometimes, loving each other gets messy and challenging.

We might disagree, misunderstand one another, have different political views, or even have been hurt by those we worship beside. Yet, it’s in these moments of tension that the love of Christ has the greatest opportunity to shine through us. When we choose to love despite our differences, we become living examples of God’s grace and forgiveness.

Ephesians 4:2
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 

As you look ahead into this week, take time to notice places where your love for others, whether you’re at church, home, or out in your community, could better reflect the heart of Jesus. Maybe there’s someone you find difficult to connect with or a relationship that needs healing. Ask God to reveal any attitudes or actions that may be holding you back from loving more fully. Remember, Jesus calls us not only to love those who are easy to love but also those who challenge us. 

Discussion Questions:
Ice Breaker: Are you usually the peacemaker, the challenger, or the observer in a group? 

Why do you think it's so easy for people to adopt an us vs. them mindset? 

Read Romans 12:9-21: How do these verses challenge the way people typically respond when they've been hurt, frustrated, or disappointed by others? 

What would it look like for you to disagree with someone without being against them? 

Reflect & Respond: What would change in your relationships if being FOR Jesus mattered more than winning an argument, proving a point, or being right?

Prayer: 
Heavenly Father, we thank you for gathering us as your church. Jesus, we ask you to help us trust you fully and keep you at the center, knowing that you have all authority. Guide us to know you more and to share your love and truth with others. May we understand the purpose and mission you have for us as your followers and ambassadors. Help us go and make disciples - introducing people to you and teaching them how to follow you. We pray this in the name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord, amen.
