Bible in a Year Reading Plan: Numbers 17-20 | 2 Corinthians 6

We can spend so much time waiting for the “next thing” that we miss what God is doing in the place he has already planted us. We wonder if our work matters. We wonder if our ordinary routines have any eternal significance. We wait for a bigger opportunity, a more important position, or a clearer calling. 

But what if faithfulness isn’t about waiting to be somewhere else? What if it begins with fully engaging where we are right now? 

Colossians 3:23
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Whatever you do. Not just the things that feel spiritual. Not just the things that receive recognition. Not just the opportunities that look important from the outside. 

Whatever you do. Your job. Your family. Your friendships. Your responsibilities. The conversation you have with someone who needs encouragement. The gift you quietly use to serve someone else. The task nobody notices. The opportunity that seems small. Absolutely none of it is wasted when it is offered to God. 

God is not only concerned with where you are going; he cares deeply about how faithfully you live where you are today. Every ordinary moment can become an opportunity to reflect his character and make his presence known.

Faithfulness means recognizing that God can work through the ordinary. The place he has planted you may not be where you imagined you would be, but it can still be where he wants to use you. You don’t have to wait for a platform to make an impact. You don’t have to have everything figured out to be obedient. You simply have to be willing to show up, give what you have, and do what is in front of you with your whole heart. 

Sometimes God’s work looks less like a grand assignment and more like loving the person in front of you well. I challenge you today to stop overlooking the place where you are because you are so focused on where you want to go. 

Look around. What has God placed in your hands? Who has he placed around you? What gifts has he given you? What responsibility is he asking you to steward faithfully? 

Your ordinary life is not an interruption to God’s purpose. It may be the very place his purpose is unfolding.

Where has God planted you in this season? Have you been fully present there?

What gifts or opportunities has God placed in your hands that you may be overlooking? 

Next Steps: 
Identify one ordinary responsibility you can approach differently today as an opportunity to serve God.

Find one gift, skill, or resource you can use to bless someone around you. 

Instead of wishing you were somewhere else, practice being completely present where God has placed you. 

Prayer: 
Lord, thank you for meeting me exactly where you have planted me. Help me to not overlook the ordinary moments and responsibilities in my life, and give me eyes to recognize them as opportunities to serve you and love the people around me. Teach me to use the gifts you have given me with humility, courage, and faithfulness, even when no one notices or applauds. When I am tempted to rush toward what is next, remind me that you are still working in the place I am standing today. Make me faithful with what is in my hands, and help me trust what is in yours. Amen.
