Bible in a Year Reading Plan: 1 Samuel 1-5 | 2 Corinthians 11

It’s so easy to look at what we lack and miss what God has already provided. We notice the unanswered prayer, the empty space, the need that still hasn’t been met. We worry about tomorrow and wonder if God will come through. 

However, Scripture reminds us to look at how much God cares for the birds of the air. If he cares for them, how much more does he care for us?

Matthew 6:25-26
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life - whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” 

Sometimes faith begins with simply noticing. When we slow down long enough to pay attention, ordinary moments can become reminders of an extraordinary God. What feels like coincidence may actually be his kindness. What feels small may be his provision. What feels routine may be evidence that he has faithfully been carrying us all along.  

Notice the meal that showed up when you didn’t know how you would afford it. Notice the friend that showed up at the right moment. Notice the door God opened or the small provision you almost overlooked. These moments may not feel miraculous, but they are evidence of a faithful God. 

Noticing God’s faithfulness changes us. When we consistently look for where God is moving, we begin to trust that he is still working, even when we cannot see the whole picture. Noticing provision becomes the foundation for trust, and trust frees us to become generous. 

When we believe that our Father knows what we need, we no longer have to cling tightly to everything we have. We can give our time, share our resources, and encourage someone who is struggling. We can step into the opportunities God places in front of us because we trust that the same God who provided yesterday will provide again tomorrow. 

The question isn’t whether or not God is moving, but whether you are paying attention. Look again. Notice his faithfulness, and trust his provision. Then be generous and join him in what he is already doing.

Where have you seen God’s provision recently that you might have previously overlooked? 

What are you currently worrying about that you need to surrender to God? 

How might greater trust in God’s provision change the way you give, serve, or love others?

Notice: Write down three ways you have seen God’s faithfulness this week. 

Trust: Surrender one specific worry to him today. 

Join: Ask God, “Where are you already working, and how can I participate?”

Prayer: 
God, open my eyes to see what you are already doing around me. Forgive me for focusing so much on what I lack that I overlook the countless ways you have already provided. Teach me to trust you, not only when I understand your plan but also when I cannot see what comes next. Give me the courage to loosen my grip on what you have given me and the generosity to share it with others. Help me notice where you are working, and give me the willingness to join you there. Remind me today that I am cared for by a Father who knows exactly what I need. Amen.
