Bible in a Year: Proverbs 14-15 | Luke 2
Characteristics of God: He is a creator.
The Artemis II mission was completed on April 11, 2026. The Orion spacecraft did the unthinkable, taking four astronauts, Ried Wiseman, Victor Glover, Kristina Koch, and Jeremy Hanson to the far reaches of space to see the dark side of the moon. Pilot Victor Glover shared an inspiring, off-the-cuff message in the Orion spacecraft, encouraging people to recognize the uniqueness of creation: "When I read the Bible, and I look at all of the amazing things that were done for us, who were created, you have this amazing place, this spaceship … called Earth that was created to give us a place to live in the universe, in the cosmos."
This reflects God as Boreh Olam, the Hebrew word for Creator of the universe. It reminds us that God is unsearchable, incomprehensible, and beyond our grasp. As much as we study and explore, we will never fully understand the vastness of creation or the One who created it.
Isaiah’s words speak to this.
Isaiah 40:26
Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomprehensible strength, not a single one is missing.
Space helps us to see the full expression of this, but that doesn't mean we have to leave our planet to experience it. We can encounter God’s power by worshiping him through music or art, taking a risk to try out a new experience, helping a friend or your community in need, thanking God for his provision, seeing beauty in nature, or celebrating important milestones in someone's life.
Isaiah 40:27-28
O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
When we take the time to examine all of creation, it’s impossible to ignore God’s presence. He is continually working in our everyday lives, even when we cannot see it. Everything – from the magnificent Milky Way to our own fragile bodies - was designed by his hand with great care and intentionality. We get to find delight and wonder in his creation, exactly where he’s placed us on our earth spaceship.
Questions:
How have you experienced Boreh Olam, Creator of the universe?
Do you live your life as a way of worshiping God? How can you intentionally spend more time this week both marveling at his creation and taking care of the world and people he so carefully designed?
Next Steps:
Reflect on moments you have experienced God’s vastness.
Read Psalm 8 as a prayer of reflection. When you’re finished, make a list of all the parts of creation that bring you delight, and thank God for them.
Prayer:
Boreh Olam, you created the heavens and the earth. The world is so vast, I won’t ever fully understand it. All I can do is look into the heavens and be in awe of this beautiful world you designed. Today, open my eyes to your creation, and help me worship you with every part of my day. Amen.
Series Theme Verse:
Jeremiah 9:23-24a
This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord….”
