Bible in a Year Reading Plan: Numbers 9-12 | 2 Corinthians 4

“May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.” 

I have a small sign with those words on it. Originally, it was gifted to me in a care package my mom sent while I was studying in Ireland during my first semester of college. From there, it followed me to my college dorm, back to my parents’ house after graduating, and now, it sits on the mantel in my own home. Through the highs and lows of each of those seasons, I was right where God wanted me to be, where he could shape me into the person he designed me to be. 

The same is true for you.  

There were definitely times when I didn’t believe it. I remember moving back home after college, wanting to be anywhere except Northwest Ohio. However, over time, I found myself putting down roots, making friends, getting involved in my church, and becoming part of the community. It felt like I was a part of what God was doing here, like I belonged. 

And honestly, that kind of terrified me. Because what if I didn’t find work in the area? What if I had to uproot myself, find new friendships, and build that sense of connection all over again?

But that kind of fear is not how God calls us to live. God calls us to fully live where we are - to build connections, love the people around us, serve, and make a difference.

Jeremiah 29:4-7
This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: “Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce. Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.” 

It may not always feel like it, but you are exactly where God wants you to be. He has planted you where you are, in this season, for a reason - to grow and help those around you. So don’t be afraid to put down roots, work for the peace and prosperity of the community God’s called you to serve.

Where has God planted you in the past? How did the highs and lows of those seasons shape you? What did you learn, and how did God use you to make a difference?

Where does God have you planted now? How are you growing in the season, and where is he calling you to help your community flourish?

What does it look like to put down roots where you are?

Next Steps: 
Take one step to put down roots, connect with those around you, or serve your community. This could look like getting more connected at church by joining a Group or the DreamTeam. It could mean taking time to get to know your neighbors and coworkers better. Or you could join a local club or charity. 

Prayer: 
Heavenly Father, I trust that I am exactly where you meant for me to be. Thank you for the seasons you’ve carried me through, and thank you for where you’ve planted me. Help me to grow, flourish, and make a difference in the lives of those around me. May your will be done in me and through me. Amen.
