Daniel 2:20-21
He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.” 

This prayer comes from a pivotal moment in Daniel’s story. In that moment, he earnestly sought God’s presence and wisdom and witnessed God responding in power. Daniel’s experience sets the tone for what follows, reminding us that God’s involvement is both real and personal.

With that foundation, we can look at the challenges our cities face through a different lens. Rather than seeing them as completely random or chaotic, we recognize them as movements within God’s purposeful design. The events that shape our communities are not outside his knowledge or control.

This means that the same God who directs the course of world events has the wisdom to discern what our city truly needs and the power to bring it to pass. We are not left to face these complexities alone; we serve a God who is both attentive and active.

Because God cares enough to guide the destinies of cities and nations, we can live with open hands, trusting that his ultimate plan is unfolding even as we faithfully serve our city. Our role is not to orchestrate every outcome, but to participate with humility and hope.

As we look ahead to this week, let’s not hide from or try to escape the realities of where we see our cities and our communities today. Instead, let’s show up with thankful prayers for our city, grounded in the assurance that the One who controls the course of world events is worthy of our trust.

God, we praise you for the countless ways you show us your love! We worship you for who you are, our Savior, King, and Lord! Fill our hearts with passion for you, and grant us daily moments to show how thankful we are for your love and grace.
