Fishing requires intention. You don’t just throw a line anywhere and hope for the best. You look for the right spot, the right moment, and the right opportunity.

In the same way, following Jesus means living with purpose and being intentional about finding the people he has placed in our lives.

2 Corinthians 5:20
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

As Paul says in this Scripture, we are Christ’s ambassadors. That means wherever we go—our neighborhoods, workplaces, gyms, schools, coffee shops—we represent him. Our lives become the place where others begin to see what Jesus is like.

And if anyone modeled what an ambassador looks like, it was Jesus himself. (Hebrews 1:1-3) Through mockery, criticism, opposition, and even the road to the cross, he continued to radiate his Father’s glory, staying centered on the mission of reaching people with the love of God.

Sometimes that looked like preaching to crowds. Other times it looked like something much simpler, like sharing a meal. Jesus met people where they were and welcomed them into a relationship with him.

That same mission continues through us.

This may seem a bit intimidating for some of us who aren't naturally gifted at stepping into situations that feel out of the ordinary, uncomfortable, or even confrontational.

But often, the “spot” God is inviting you to fish in isn’t complicated. It might start with genuine curiosity and simple questions:

What's been life-giving for you lately?
When life gets hard, what helps you get through it?
How can I pray for you this week?

These conversations open doors, create space for stories, and, when the moment is right, give you the chance to share how Jesus has changed your life.

You don't have to force it. Just be present, walk alongside people, and care about what they care about.

When you truly walk alongside others and let Jesus’ love shine through you, something beautiful unfolds. God starts drawing hearts closer to himself. And for those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Savior, there is nothing more fulfilling than witnessing someone you care about step into the life-changing adventure he offers.

As we look ahead to this week, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and be open to him showing you that perfect spot.

Discussion Questions:

Ice Breaker: Think about a time someone went out of their way to help you. What did they do, and why did it stick with you?

Where do you see opportunities in everyday life to build meaningful connections with people who may not know Jesus?

Read Luke 5:17–25: The friends in this story went to great lengths to bring the paralyzed man to Jesus. What does their determination teach us about helping people encounter him?

What might that look like to move from conversation to intentional connection in your relationships right now?

Reflect and Respond: Who are your Top 5? Write down the names of one to five people in your life who may be unchurched or spiritually curious and pray for them. Then, choose one simple step to take this week: start a conversation, spend intentional time with them, or ask how you can pray for them.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me reflect your love to others and draw hearts closer to you. Use my life as your ambassador to point people to the hope and adventure found in Jesus. I love you, I trust you, and I worship you. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:
