New Testament Reading Plan: Luke 20

Come, thou long expected Jesus,
Born to set thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us;
Let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.
Born thy people to deliver,
Born a child, and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever.

The words of this beloved hymn, “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” written by Charles Wesley, are ones of rejoicing. This advent season, as I am preparing my heart through the study of God’s Word, I too am excited. Excited to once again celebrate the first coming of Christ and rejoicing in the soon return of our great King, Jesus.  

If you are feeling like your current situation is going to swallow you up and there is no life line to reach for, take heart because Jesus reigns. Christmas is a time to remember that God tells us to rejoice in the good times and the not-so-good times. We rejoice as we remember that while we were still sinners, God sent his Son to us as a baby to save us all. He didn’t put restrictions on this exchange but extends it freely to all who believe.  

1 Chronicles 16:31
Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Tell all the nations, “The Lord reigns!” 

Regardless of our circumstances, we can choose to unwrap the gift of rejoicing in the promises that are ours in Jesus.

Spend some time making a list of the things you are thankful for in your life.  

Prayer: 
I thank you, Lord, for this magical season during which I get to once again remember all that you have done. Please open my heart to see the hope you have set before me. Open my eyes to those who are in need around me, and help me take action. Thank you for the grace and mercy you extend to me every second of my day. Amen.
