Have you ever noticed how much excitement one person can create?

One person walks through the door, and everyone cheers. One person gets good news, and suddenly everyone wants to celebrate. One person takes a step forward, and the people who love them and came alongside them feel like they took that step, too.

Jesus tells us heaven feels the same way.

Luke 15:7
“In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!”

One.

One single person in a world full of people matters that much to God.

Throughout this week, we've looked at how to move toward people instead of away from them: to ask questions instead of making assumptions, to listen instead of trying to fix, and to point people toward Jesus without treating them like projects.

As you consider these ways of engaging with others, think about the people God has placed in your life. If we’re honestly paying attention, I’m sure we can think of at least one more person who needs hope, who is searching, or who has questions about faith.

You might not be the person who leads them all the way to him, but you could be the one who listens, invites, or answers a question without judgment. You could also be the one who loves them well enough that they become curious about the God you follow.

As you reflect this week, think about the celebration in heaven when that person you've been praying for takes even one step toward Jesus. Let that joy motivate you. Don't underestimate the impact of a single step as you move toward your one more, today.

Because to God, one more isn't just one more - it’s someone worth celebrating.

Prayer: 
Heavenly Father, help me be firmly rooted in you so that my heart can produce the good fruit that comes from you. I know that only by the power of your Holy Spirit can I have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in my life (Galatians 5:22-23). I desire to have a close relationship with you that produces good fruit in me and through me for the good of others, so guide me to cultivate my relationship with you every day. May it all be for your honor and your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
