Bible in a Year Reading Plan: 1 Kings 1-4 | John 10

Treasure-hunting movies always ignite my imagination. My love for this kind of adventure began early. I remember sitting cross-legged in front of the TV with my family watching The Goonies for the first time.

In this movie, a band of misfit friends races to uncover pirate treasure, fights to save their neighborhood, and navigates wild twists along the way. Throw in some fake historical mysteries, a ticking clock to outrun the villains, and a dash of high-school romance, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for fun. Honestly, what’s not to love?

There's something exciting about following clues, searching for hidden riches, and wondering what you'll discover when you finally reach the prize.

As I’ve grown up, I've realized every treasure hunt leads to a deeper longing.

Jesus gives us a clue to what is really going on inside of us in Matthew 6:21: "Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be."

In other words, what we value most directs our lives. If we constantly chase more money, possessions, or success, we'll keep looking for ways to get them.

But when we treasure what matters to God, our priorities begin to change. We start looking for opportunities to give, serve, love others, and invest in something bigger than ourselves.

Of course, knowing where the real treasure is means little if we never take the first step. Faith isn't just believing that eternal things matter; it's choosing to live as if they do. That might mean giving when it's easier to spend on ourselves, helping someone who needs a hand, or using what God has entrusted to us to make a difference.

And here's the best part: We don't have to search for ways to earn God's love. We get to respond to the love he's already given us by living generously and following where he leads.

So, consider this your treasure map. Where you spend your time, how you use your resources, and how you care for others are all clues pointing to what matters most to you.

Questions:
What treasure is your heart pointing you toward?

Where might God be leading you to give, serve, or love more generously?

Next Steps:
Set aside a few moments to journal the top five things that matter most to you right now. Then, unleash your creativity by mapping out a treasure route to move closer to each goal. Draw it out like a treasure map, complete with winding paths and milestones along the way.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, open my eyes to the treasure that truly matters. Help me follow you with an adventurous, generous heart and use what you've given me to make an eternal difference. I love you, I trust you, and I worship you. Amen.

Series Theme Verse:

1 Timothy 6:6-7
Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it.
